Verkerks is one of a very few NZ-owned and vertically integrated FMCG companies, producing quality smallgoods and continental meats for over 60 years. Our consumer-branded business is the market leader in the salami and ferment type categories across New Zealand supermarket groups and we have recently begun to export to the Asia Pacific region.
At Verkerks we are committed to the internal development, and promotion of staff for senior positions that become available from time to time.
An exciting opportunity has just opened up for a school leaver who is interested in a genuine and worthwhile alternative to tertiary study.
This cadet will initially be based in a pool of general hands in order to be trained and gain competency in all departments across the manufacturing plant. In this role, you will develop sound, generalist manufacturing, reporting and planning skills through assisting our Manufacturing Supervisors around the factory. This will require you to develop an understanding of the “big picture” view of the manufacturing process and its importance within the business. We expect that this training will be the ideal pre-cursor for the right person to eventually ‘step-up’ into more complex roles for further business exposure and development.
We welcome applications from students with any background people who believe they have the drive and potential to develop a management career as we believe that our future management needs will be met from the talent that exists within our Company. Ideally, we look for students who consider mathematics as one of their strong points and consider themselves extremely organised. It is of paramount importance to us that the successful candidate has a willingness and commitment to learning and developing the principles on top of their other trainings. These candidates will be expected to learn about the Deming/Lean Six Sigma Management Philosophy.
Our company has a high level of transparency and autonomy and our staff are encouraged to get involved in many aspects of the business. As a result, this position provides an excellent starting point for a school leaver interested in earning as soon as they leave school and who is interesting in pursuing a management career.
